Minster Baseball State Bound

Staff Writer

The Minster baseball team is headed back to state.

The Wildcats defeated Leipsic 3-1 on Saturday at Patrick Henry High School in a Division IV regional title game to advance to the state's final four. Minster returns to Huntington Park in Columbus for the first time since winning back-to-back state championships in 2011 and 2012.

The Wildcats will face Toronto on Friday, June 2 at 10 a.m. at Huntington Park in downtown Columbus. The winner plays for the state championship against either Russia or Dalton on Saturday, June 3 at 4 p.m.

Minster won the regional behind the pitching of starter Jack Heitbrink, who went five scoreless innings before Isaac Dorsten earned the save with two innings of one-run baseball. Minster scored three runs in the bottom of the first and it held up after Alex Lehmkuhl drove in a run and Ben Stubbs followed with a two-run double that plated Jon Niemeyer and Lehmkuhl.
