Minster Football Will Face USV at Wapak

MINSTER — Minster was too strong, too focused to be stopped in a 33-15 win over Sidney Lehman Catholic in a Division VII, Region 28 playoff opener on Saturday night.

The Wildcats (7-4), who have now won five straight games since a mid-season four-game losing streak, advance to play Upper Scioto Valley next Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Wapakoneta's Harmon Field.

Minster rushed for 286 yards and put up more than 400 yards of total offense in the game. Minster running Bryce Schmiesing ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns while Huelsman, the recently-named Midwest Athletic Conference offensive player of the year, ran for 61 yards and a score and went 7-of-9 passing for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the runaway win.

On defense, Minster held Lehman to 167 ground yards ‑- and many of those came late in the game against the second unit.

"We didn't give up too many rushing yards and that was the big thing tonight to make them one-dimensional," said Stokes, who moved to 8-1 in the playoffs as the head coach of Minster and MInster helped the MIdwest Athletic Conference improve to 65-2 all-time in first-round playoff games. "Their skill players are talented. They're the kind of team that can go out there and score six touchdowns on six plays, so we just wanted to keep them in front of us and make them earn things. I think we did that."
