Minster freshman Brock Schulte has worked diligently to put together an event to help his his buddy and classmate Jackson Hogenkamp, who is battling a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. The event is called the “Action Jackson 5K” and it’s scheduled to be run on Sunday, March 25. Schulte says the race is to “support the Hogenkamp Family and 100 percent of the profits from registration and t-shirts go directly to the Hogenkamp family.”

Schulte shared with The Community Post all the details of the event he’s diligently worked hard.

Schulte talked about how the idea for the race came about, “The event originated from a school project called Genius Hour. Genius Hour is  a project where the students get a half-hour to work on any project to better themselves, make an object or better the community. The project didn’t have to be too crazy. Some people made putt-putt golf courses in their backyard and someone else made a basketball sorter. Our cool science teacher Mr. Muhlenkamp allowed for us to do this and left the door wide open for opportunity. This event would have never been thought of without him.”

The race logo for the Action Jackson Run/Walk 5K shows a big racing show footprint and the slogan “BE RELENTLESS.”

The event starts at the west parking lot of Four Seasons Recreational Park, 360 W. 7th St., Minster, and will end in the same exact place. Participants are asked to park in the east parking lot and if there’s not enough parking there, it will overflow into the parking lot by the batting cages.

The race will start at 8 a.m. It’s recommended you show up earlier to pick up your chip and t-shirt, if you’ve elected to buy one.

Now part of the Road to Fitnesss Challenge, the race will also be chip-timed by Can’t Stop Running Company. There will be one water station sponsored by McDonald’s and after the participants finish there will be yogurt and water provided by Dannon and Wagner’s IGA. Schulte notes, “The event could not have been done without my generous sponsors.”

Premium sponsors are H.A. Dorsten, Precision Strip and Dannon.  Other sponsors are Grand Lake Health System, McDonald’s, Paul and Sandy Albers from Falcon Financial, Minster Bank, True Value, Bud’s Pizza, Community Insurance, Bernhold Insurance, Minster Concrete Coatings, Journeyman’s Club, Schweiterman’s Pharmacy, Minster Dental, Wilson Health System and Post Printing.

Shortly after every participant finishes door prizes will be provided by Bud’s Pizza, Wilson Health and McDonald’s. Prizes will include blankets, gift cards, neon signs and more. Trophies will be awarded to overall winners for each gender and medals given to age group winners 14 and under, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over.

Registration costs $16 and there are optional t-shirts. $11 dollars for a short sleeve or $14 for a long sleeve. The due date for this is March 2.
