Minster Honors Veterans

Staff Writer

Minster Schools honored 80 area veterans at its 2015 Veteran's Day program. Veterans, each led in by a Minster High student holding their service banner – Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and Army - and to the tune of their service song played by the Minster High band, marched in, faced students, teachers, relatives and friends filling the gym. High School Principal and host Mike Lee then read their names one-by-one.  This year’s keynote address was given by Mr. Anthony Bergman, a veteran who has served multiple tours of duty in the US Marine Corps since graduating from Minster High School in 2008.  The program also featured performances by selected student speakers, a color guard led by Scouts, an elementary music class song to the veterans, and the Minster High School band with  patriotic music throughout. Minster class president Hannah Schmitmeyer told the audience about the origins of Veterans Day. Minster American Legion auxiliary president Deb Meyer presented a set of books authored by Lynn Cheney to Lisa Schemmel.
