New Bremen and Fort Loramie to Collide With State Spot On the Line

An area team will be headed to the state volleyball Final Four. It's just a matter of which one.

New Bremen swept and Fort Loramie won in four sets over regional semifinal opponents at Northmont High School on Thursday, setting up a showdown for the Division IV regional title on Saturday at 2 p.m.

New Bremen swept Jackson Center 25-19, 18-25, 25-21, 25-11 in the second match. New Bremen senior Paige Jones put down 28 kills in the victory. while Julia Goettemoeller had eight kills.

Fort Loramie advanced with a 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 26-24 win over fellow SCAL squad Russia in the first match of the evening. Abby Holthaus led Fort Loramie with 12 kills Chloe Stang and Marissa Meiring each ahd 11 kills and Kenzie Hoelscher had seven kills. Sophia Albers ahd 38 assists. Stang and Emily Austin each had 23 digs. Holthaus served up six aces while Hoelscher had three aces.

New Bremen won the regular season match against Fort Loramie in four sets back on Aug. 26. The Cardinals are 25-1 and haven't lost since Sept. 14 against Coldwater. Fort Loramie, which is 17-10, has won five tournament matches even after it dropped its final two regular season matches heading into the postseason.

The winner of the New Bremen-Fort Loramie match will advance to the state semifinals at the Nutter Center on the campus of Wright State University for a Thursday, Nov. 9 match at 4 p.m. against the winner of Buckeye Central and Carey. The Division IV state championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Nutter Center.

Fort Loramie won the 2014 state volleyball championship. New Bremen has never been to the state's final four in the sport.
