Baseball

Coldwater 10, Minster 4 — Coldwater jumped out to a quick lead with a three-run first inning and won this conference-opening contest between two of the Midwest Athletic Conference's baseball powers. Both teams came ready to hit despite a few days away from the diamond due to the rain and snow. Minster answered back with two runs in its half of the first. Both teams added two runs in the second inning, but a four-run fourth inning broke things open for the Cavaliers. Jake Wenning, Nate Grunden and Jack Muhlenkamp each drove in two runs for Coldwater. Jack Olberding and Jared Huelsman each drove in two runs for Minster. Coldwater's Cole Frilling pitched five innings, giving up two earned runs for the win. Minster patched together its pitching, throwing five players on the mound. Anthony Boehnlein threw two innings of scoreless, hitless relief with three strikeouts. Jack Heitbrink started and took the loss.



St. Henry 3, Marion Local 1 — Daylon Lange twirled a complete game on the mound, striking out nine and allowing just one run in the Redskins' victory over the Flyers. Parker Link, Rylee Deitsch and Tyler Schlarman each drove in runs for St. Henry in the MAC opener. Moeller drove in Marion Local's lone run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI groundout. Marion Local's Ruhenkamp threw three scoreless innings of relief after taking over for Knapschaefer, who went the first four innings.



Versailles 2, New Bremen 1 — Versailles' Eversole singled home Rutschilling in the top of the fifth, a run that proved to be the difference in a low-scoring affair between the Cardinals and Tigers. Both teams scored a run in the second inning, New Bremen's lone run coming on a Charlie Sailer RBI single to left field that scored Wells. New Bremen's Ryan Bertke pitched well despite taking the loss, giving up two runs on five hits over 6 and 1-3 innings with five strikeouts and four walks. Toops, Niekamp and McEldowney combined to hold New Bremen to one run on five hits.

Fort Recovery 1, Delphos St. John’s 0, 8 inn. — NIck Thwaits singled with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Fort Recovery a walk-off win in a MAC opener on Thursday. Thwaits ended a game he started on the mound, throwing five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts before giving way to reliever Cade Wendel, who threw three scoreless innings. Reindel threw seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts for St. John’s before Troy Elwer came on in the eighth and gave up two hits and intentionally walked a batter as Fort Recovery walked off with the win.

Fort Loramie 13, Fairborn 1 — Fort Loramie pitcher CJ Billing threw six shutout innings on the mound while Dylan Albers tripled twice, Eli Rosengarten went 4-for-5 and Mike Hoying was 3-for-4 for the Redskins.

 

Softball

Minster 10, Coldwater 2 — Minster’s Alice Schmiesing went 3-for-4 with three RBI and pitcher Jenna Poeppelman threw a complete game with four strikeouts for Minster in a MAC-opening victory. Emmy Schmiesing added three hits while Karly Richard, Taylor Homan and Poeppelman each had two hits apiece.


Marion Local 12, St. Henry 3 — Marion Local’s Lauren Sanders went 2-for-4 with four RBI while Sam Pierron added two RBI. Emily Nietfeld had a three-hit night, as well, as the Flyers rolled to a MAC victory. Amber Schmitz pitched a complete game for the win, striking out six. Kunkler had three hits for St. Henry.


Versailles 11, New Bremen 2 — New Bremen jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Versailles scored 11 straight runs to close the game for the MAC win. Hailey McEldowney and Mallory George each drove in three runs for the Tigers. Kami McEldowney had two RBI. New Bremen’s Molly Smith drove in two runs and doubled. Kelly Naylor and Caity Bergman each had two hits for the Cardinals.

Parkway 23, Elida 3, 5 inn.

Sidney 5, Fort Loramie 2 — Fort Loramie built a 2-0 lead, only to watch the Yellow Jackets score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and go ahead with on a three-run home run by Khia McMillen. Morgan Holscher and Abby Holthaus drove in runs for Fort Loramie. Fort Loramie’s Aleah Frilling was sailing along with a shutout until the sixth, when a double, walk, double, single, sac bunt set up  a three-run home run by Sidney’s McMillen that proved to be the difference.

Track

The Minster boys and girls track teams swept wins at a home quad meet.

The Minster girls scored 160 points. Coldwater took second with 86 points, Anna was third with 53, Lehman Catholic had 49 points and Marion Local had 13 points.

The Minster boys scored 130.33 points. Anna was second with 122.33 points. Coldwater was third with 71.33 points. Marion Local took fourth with 20 points and Lehman Catholic had seven points.

Minster Girls Winners: 3200 meter relay (10:12.01), Emma Watke (1600 meter run, 5:17.07 and 3200 meter run , 11:20.92), Madeline Magoto (400 meter dash, 61.15), Mason Pohl, (800 meter run, 2:44.41), 1600 meter relay (4:25.97),  Grace Butler (pole vault, 10-0),  Paige Thobe (long jump, 16-0).

Minster Boys Winners: 3200 meter relay (9:10.65), Jon Albers (1600, 5:11.34), Carter Pohl (800 meter run (2:18.49), Luke Barga (3200 meter run, 10:40.2), Jeremy Kauffman (high jump, 5-10), Max Prenger (shot put, 47-5.5).

Marion Local Boys Winners: John Dircksen (discus throw, 159-2).
