Artist Depicts Area Churches in Series of Paintings

Staff Writer

Local artist/painter Rhonda Hager recently began a painting series featuring local churches that depicts scenes of both the Maria Stein shrine and the Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen.

“I have been photographing many of our local churches under various lighting and seasonal conditions for future inspiration to continue my Church series,” Hager said.

The first painting in Rhonda’s church series was the Maria Stein shrine. “This piece was inspired as I drove past a gorgeous wheat field in Mercer County along the ‘Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches’ area,” says Rhonda.

“Shortly after I started photographing these beautiful churches, Diana Russell noticed my paintings at the Cottage Cafe and approached me about teaching a ‘Shrine & Canvas’ painting class to raise funds for the Maria Stein Shrine,’ Hager said.

Hager gave her second series painting, inspired by Revelation 1:7, "Look He is Coming" to Pastor Tom Sager recently during a special retirement celebration after his 46 years including his last nine at Faith Alliance Church in New Bremen.

A Delphos, Ohio, native, Hager was a Fine Arts major in painting at Columbus College of Art & Design – CCAD and has also studied painting/Fine Art at Austin Peay State University and The Ohio State University.

You can view Hager’s artwork at the Cottage Café at 278 S. Main St. in Minster, Ohio or even at the Lew Griffin Gallery in Gahanna, Ohio.
