Fort Loramie Man Pleads Guilty to Leaving Scene

Staff Writer

A Fort Loramie man recently pleaded guilty to lesser charges in connection to the 2014 hit-skip death of a Minster teen.

John L. McGee, 20, of Fort Loramie, agreed on July 9  to a plea deal that had him admit to leaving the scene of an accident, a fourth-degree felony.

Eighteen-year old Minster High School senior Austin Brackman was killed while walking southbound on Schmitmeyer Baker Road in McClean Township on Nov. 29, 2014.

McGee had been charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide back in January. The original charges stated that McGee was driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.137  percent when his Mazda 6 struck Brackman, who was walking south on the road. McGee then left the scene of the accident.

Sentencing for the lesser charge is set for Sept. 9.

The jury trial was scheduled to begin on July 14 before the plea deal last week.
