Minster Girl Scout Beautifies Ballparks With Art

MINSTER — Having a vision for improving something and then planning the project and seeing it through to completion is what Kate Perryman, daughter of Jenny and Clif Perryman, is all about. The senior at Minster High School and  member of Girl Scout Troop 20259 in Minster recently finished her Girl Scout Gold Award Project at Four Seasons Park in Minster.

Kate’s project “A Day at the Ballpark” focused on making improvements to the park’s eight restrooms by priming, painting and decorating with her own original designs. Her project goal was to improve the facilities at the park for the community as well as the visitors to the park.

Kate, along with help from friends and family, spent well over 200 hours at the park since July in order to accomplish her goal of making all of the restrooms more appealing. She noted, “It was supposed to be an 80-hour project but turned into one that needed more attention because of the sanding, priming and painting that needed to be done in some of the restrooms. It doubled the amount of time.”

In order to complete her project for earning the highest award in Girl Scouting, Kate had to first design a plan to improve her community. Her idea stemmed from when she played travel softball and played at a park in the Dayton area that had really cool restrooms. Kate then needed to look no further than to choose Four Seasons park because it’s one place in the community where many of the families in town spend countless hours enjoying baseball, softball and little league.

Kate started her project in July and was able to add softball and baseball designs to the restrooms at diamonds 5, 6, 7 and 8.  After that, she moved to the restrooms at diamonds 1,2, 3 and 4 where the walls had to be primed and then painted before adding the softball and baseball designs. When these were completed, Kate moved to the restrooms on the north side of the park and primed, painted and added flowers and Wildcat paw prints to the men’s and women’s restrooms. The final stage of the project was the restrooms by the pond. These restrooms have butterflies and a fisherman painted on the walls after the priming and painting was completed. In addition, Kate added a positive quote painted on the walls in each restroom.
