Minster Grads Pitching for Buckeyes, Flyers

A pair of Minster grads are making their marks on the mound for two Ohio Division I programs this spring.

Adam Niemeyer, Ohio State

Adam Niemeyer and the Ohio State baseball team are heading into Big Ten conference play in earnest over the next couple weeks after a successful non-conference southern swing that has the Buckeyes at 19-8 on the season. Niemeyer is a fifth-year senior at Ohio State and a Minster grad who helped lead Minster to back-to-back state championships on the diamond. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder has made seven starts for the Buckeyes, going 2-2 with a 5.85 earned run average over his 32 and 1-3 innings this spring. Ohio State won two out of three against Nebraska in its openeing three Big Ten games last weekend. The Buckeyes hit the road to play at Iowa this weekend for a three-game set. Friday’s and Sunday’s games are available on BTN Plus. They then return home on Tuesday to host Ohio University at 6:35 p.m.

Josh Nixon, Dayton

Josh Nixon has done a little bit of everything for the Dayton Flyers over his two years there. On the roster he’s listed as a catcher, an infi elder and a pitcher.  He’s getting his chance on the mound full-time this spring.The Minster grad and two-sport standout on the diamo nd and the gridirone has gotten the opportunity to pitch full-time this spring, making nine relief appearances for the Flyers.  The six-foot sophmore has a 4.97 earned run average over 12 and 2-3 innings with 10 strikeouts.Dayton is 7-15 on the season. The Flyers start a three-game set against VCU on Friday in Richmond and then are at Toledo on Tuesday, April 10.
