Lights! On the Christmas Tree! Signaling the beginning of another Christmas season in New Bremen. Bremenites again had gathered at Lock One Park for their annual ritual festivities to welcome the Christmas season.

The throng on this seasonably comfortable late fall evening was in a festive mood and they were more than ready to bring on the holidays.

The hot chocolate and cookies had been prepared as usual, for what this annnual event has come to mean. As 6:30 approached, the crowd around the shelter had burgeoned well beyond its capacity.

Pastor Becky Strang gave the opening prayer and then introduced Mayor Jeff Pape who took the mike to thank everyone, and then the New Bremen High School choir mixed in the first carols of the season. Mayor Pape then invited everyone to help with a countdown as all assembled feasted their eyes on  the big green fir tree on the north end of Lock One Park. The mayor led the countdown. And then all the tree lights outside broke the dark night sky and twinkled brightly while light shined on the Christmas creche.

Not long after that a New Bremen Fire Truck pulled up to the scene  to deliver Santa Claus for his fans young and old. Santa had candy canes for each of them. Immediately following the Tree Lighting and Santa’s arrival, the scene and many of its participants then moved to the Lockkeeper’s House to look at beautiful Christmas trees and displays erected and decorated by members of the area community!

The Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the New Bremen Historic Association, continues the holiday tradition in the New Bremen community. This is the 7th annual Christmas Tree Festival held at the Lockkeeper’s House in New Bremen.
