Isaac Schmiesing and the Minster boys basketball team began a busy, challenging stretch of the season with a bang.

The Wildcats dominated a Midwest Athletic Conference make-up game 80-48 on Tuesday night behind the hot shooting of Schmiesing, the junior guard who scored 34 points by going 8-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc for the night.

Cody Frericks added 10 points and 16 rebounds and Mike Ketner had 10 points, four assists and two steals in a dominant performance by the Wildcats even on a night its 6-foot-9 big man Jarod Schulze was saddled by foul trouble in the first half and played just 16 minutes in the game.

Minster improved to 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in the MAC. The Wildcats, ranked eighth earlier this week in the initial Associated Press Division IV boys basketball poll, will host St. Henry on Friday and then play Franklin Monroe in the Flyin’ to the Hoop event on Monday, Jan. 15 in Kettering at 11:30 a.m.

Coldwater had no answers, going just 18-of-55 shooting from the floor as Minster scored 20 or more points in three of the four quarters and closed the game on a 28-8 run to tally up the 32-point margin of victory. Marcus Bruns scored 12 points for Coldwater, which fell to 5-5 and 1-1 in the MAC.
