Staff Writer

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6432, the William Thieman, Jr. Memorial Post, donated $5,000 to the Minster High School Scholarship Fund at a ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 3 before its meeting on South Cleveland Street.

The VFW’s Norb Otting, Ed Westerheide and Paul Zircher presented the check to Minster High School Scholarship Fund Committee President Ted Beckman at the ceremony.

The $5,000 donation will fund a $1,000 scholarship for a student related to a VFW member for the next five years.

“This is for five years and hopefully more,”  Otting said. “It’s something we decided to do this year. It’s open to anybody who had a parent or grandparent or even way back years ago who were part of the VFW.”

Anyone who would like to donate to the VFW’s scholarship fund can contact a VFW member or the Minster High School Scholarship Fund committee.

The Minster High School Scholarship Fund, which has given over $1.6 million since its inception in 1975, provided $92,200 in college scholarships in 2016.
